Plug for the Original Rescue Bit

I have ran across a useful tool that I thought might go well in the “How to” section of the web site.

I will start with the problem that I had. I could not get water to pump constantly on the Mark 78 that I was working on. I had re-checked everything at least twice and finally it was decided that something was obstructing water passage inside the power head.

The water jacket needed to come off and that’s where the next problem started.

All 14 of the bolts were frozen . I soaked them with the mixture that Chip Rathbun’s article mentions and heated each with a propane torch.

After each bolt head was twisted off , I attempted to drive the bolt on out with a punch.

This did not work either. I could not find a drill bit good enough to drill into the bolt in order to use an ease out, so the project was at a stand still.

I did some research on the internet and found what is called a “Rescue Bit”. This thing is supposed to drill into an ease out that has been broken off in a bolt. I bought one and it works good. In a little over an hour I had all of the bolts drilled out.

This bit is two sided so you are actually buying two bits. The darn thing costs $54 bucks with shipping , but it was worth it to me since I seemed to be out of options. It’s unusual these days to buy something that works as advertised, so I thought I would pass this along to other members.

It can be found by searching for “Rescue Bit” or going to www.TheOriginalRescueBit.com  .

Oh yeah, the obstruction in the power head turned out to be a wad of fishing line!!
